Located in Patagonia, in the Province of Santa Cruz, the Glaciers National Park was declared a Natural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 1981. It's a sightseeing 'must' for those who go for vacations to Argentina. It covers more than 600,000 hectares (1,482,000 acres) and one of its main attractions is the Perito Moreno Glacier, which stands 80 meters (262 ft) tall and is 5 kilometers (3.1miles) long. Other glaciers in the park are Upsala, Onelli and Spegazzini, surrounded by the Onelli and Bertrand mountains. The closest city to the park is El Calafate, approximately 80 kilometers (50 miles) from the glacier, from where you can organize excursions and sightseeing trips. Perito Moreno Glacier, the Fitzroy mountain range, numerous smaller glaciers, lakes and peaks make this park an excellent choice for hiking enthusiasts. There are several different hiking trails in the park, many of them with camping facilities.
