Belize is a country in Central America on the Caribbean Sea, situated south of Mexico and north and east of Guatemala. Belize is the only country in the region that doesn't have a coastline on the Pacific Ocean. It is also the only country in Central America with strong historical British ties and English as the official language.

Although very small, Belize has many different landscapes and a diverse geography. The Great Maya Barrier Reef with many small islands (cayes) and offshore atolls influences the coastal landscape filled with lagoons and mangroves. The interior of the country is hilly and mountainous dominated by the Maya Mountains (the highest point is Victoria Peak, at 1,122 m / 3,681 ft), covered with tropical forest. The north of the country is mostly a flat, agricultural area.
