| |
Cyprus climate is Mediterranean featuring long and warm summers with little rain and mild, short winters. Summers begin in mid May and last until mid October.
During summers the temperatures on lowlands can reach 40°C (104°F), but coastal areas often enjoy refreshing sea breezes that make the temperatures more pleasant. Mountainous regions have occasional rainfall during summer and the temperatures drop with increasing altitude down to about 7°C (45°F) in the highest parts.
Winter brings more rain to the island, some snow in the Troodos massif but particularly the coastal areas of Cyprus still enjoy a lot of sunshine - 6 hours on average in January. Winter temperatures on the coast and the lowlands remain in the range of 10°C - 15°C (50°F - 59°F).
