Ethiopia's climate is mostly tropical monsoon, but the weather differs largely from the other African countries that are close to the Equator because most of Ethiopia's terrain is highlands, at elevations above 2,000 m (6,500 ft). The climate is characterized as temperate on the plateau and hot in the lowlands. The rainy season in Ethiopia is from mid June to the end of September with clear blue skies for the rest of the year.
The capital Addis Ababa has a pleasant climate year round with average annual rainfall of 120 cm / 47 in (most of it in the wet season between June and September) and an average of 7 hours of sunshine per day.
