Flag of Germany

Health

Sanitary and medical facilities in Germany are very good. Medical insurance, in particular for visitors outside the European Union is recommended. EU citizens, holders of European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) will receive free or reduced-cost emergency treatment. The medical emergency toll-free telephone number is 112.

Tap water is generally considered safe for consumption. In some places exceptions to that would be labeled as "Kein Trinkwasser" (no drinking water).

Safety

Germany is generally a very safe country and the law is strictly enforced and crime rates are quite low by international standards. The biggest problem that tourists in large cities can encounter would be usually pickpockets. Travelers are advised to take usual sensible precautions - locking cars and hotel rooms, not leaving valuables unattended.
