Climate & Weather in Guatemala

Flag of Guatemala

The climate in Guatemala largely depends on the altitude. The coastal areas and lowlands experience tropical climate, hot and humid during day and night, with average annual temperatures from 25°C / 77°F to 30°C / 86°F. In the central highlands the average temperatures are much lower - around 20°C / 68°F, with daily highs rarely exceeding 30°C / 85°F. The highlands are also less rainy than the lowlands. Mountain areas (above 2,000m / 6,600 ft) are colder, particularly at night.

There are two seasons in Guatemala, the dry season usually lasts between November and April. Temperatures don't fluctuate with the seasons.

Although Guatemala is situated within the hurricane belt, hurricanes rarely hit the country directly. In general, tourist can visit Guatemala any time of the year without sacrificing much of their comfort.
