Climate & Weather in Indonesia

Flag of Indonesia

Indonesia has a tropical, hot and humid climate with two seasons: wet and dry. In most parts of the country the wet season starts in October and lasts till April, and the dry season falls between June and September. Some regions have the seasons more defined (like in Nusa Tenggara) when there are severe rains causing floods during the wet season and droughts during the dry season. There are also regions (like Kalimantan) where the differences between seasons are minimal.

The temperatures on the coasts are almost the same all year round for the entire country. Average daily temperature is around 28°C / 82°F. Highlands have much lower temperatures, that decrease 1°C / 2°F for every 200 m / 656 ft altitude and can drop at night to about 7°C / 45°F.

The dry season is generally the high season in Indonesia, preferred by most international travelers.
