Currency

The currency is the New Shekel (NIS), divided into 100 argot. Notes are available in denominations of NIS200, 100, 50, and 20; coins in use are: NIS 10, 5, 2 and 1 and 50 and 10 argot.

Cash and Exchange

Foreign currency can be exchanged at banks, hotels or exchange offices that are common in most cities or towns. Banks usually charge additional commission and thus are more expensive that independent moneychangers.

Western Union international money transfer services are provided in Israeli post offices.

ATMs and Credit Cards

ATMs are widely available. All major credit cards are widely accepted.

Traveler's Checks

Traveler's checks are widely accepted in Israel. Banks usually charge relatively high commission (even up to NIS20). Exchange offices and post offices also accept traveler's checks, but they don't charge commission. Recommended are checks in US dollars

Banking Hours

Usual banking hours are: from Sunday to Friday 8:30am to 12:00pm and Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00pm to 6:pm.
