Currency

Jamaica's currency is Jamaican Dollar (J$) that equals 100 cents. Notes come in denominations of J$1,000, 500, 100 and 50. Coins are in denominations of J$20, 10, 5 and 1, and 25, 10 and 1 cents.

Exchange

Major foreign currencies like US dollar, euros, British pounds or Canadian dollars are easily exchanged at exchange offices and banks throughout Jamaica. Also many stores operate their money changing services.

US dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas, hotels, restaurants and shops however some smaller shops or establishments outside major cities may refuse to accept it.

ATMs

ATMs are widely available in Jamaica and most of them are open 24 hours. Most of the ATMs are linked to at least one overseas network such as Cirrus or Plus and accept international bank and credit cards. In remote areas ATMs can be most likely found at gas stations.

Credit Cards

Credit cards, particularly Visa and MasterCard (but also American Express and Diners Club), are widely accepted in Jamaica, particularly in larger cities or towns and tourist areas. Gas stations are and exception - they usually require payment in cash.

Traveler's Checks

Travelers checks in US dollars are widely accepted in Jamaica, but some hotels, restaurants and exchange offices may charge a high fee for cashing them.

Banking Hours

Generally banking hours are from Monday to Thursday 9:00am to 2:00pm and on Fridays: 9:00am to 12:00pm and 2:30pm to 5:00pm.
