Jamaica has a tropical maritime climate, influenced largely by the Caribbean Sea and characterized by high temperatures with little seasonal changes. The temperatures are influenced by the altitude - they drop from around 32°C / 90°F at the coast to 4°C / 40°F in the highest parts of the mountains.

The rainy season is from May to December with the rainiest months being September and October. Rains are usually heavy but short, often followed by clear sky.

Jamaica lies in the hurricane belt with the hurricane season starting in June and ending in November. The peak of the hurricane season is in August and September, but the island is rarely directly hit by a hurricane.
