Climate & Weather in Malta

Flag of Malta

Malta enjoys a Mediterranean climate, featuring mild, wet and windy winters and hot, dry summers. June to August is normally a very dry period. The most rainfall occurs between October and March; the annual average precipitation is about 60 cm (24 in). The relative humidity is high almost all the time of 40% and above.

Winters in Malta are mild and cold weather occurring only occasionally. The daytime temperatures almost never fall below 10ºC (50ºF), while night-time winter temperatures never fall below 0ºC (32ºF). Snow is only remembered by the oldest Maltese - the last time it snowed in Malta was in 1962.

Summers are warm, dry and very sunny. With little rain, July and August are Malta's hottest months featuring daytime temperatures that usually sustain above 30ºC (86ºF) and often are above 35ºC (95ºF). High humidity makes summer temperatures even more uncomfortable, especially in August and September. This is particularly true during the night; cool sea breezes at daytime have a nice, refreshing effect.
