Climate & Weather in Mexico

Due to the large size of the country, its geography and differences in the elevation, Mexico's weather varies significantly region by region. The northern regions of Mexico are in large part deserts and experience hot and dry weather, but sometimes the temperatures can drop to the freezing point at night. Regions situated on higher elevations experience milder temperatures. Inland parts of Central Mexico are warm and dry during the day but temperatures fall significantly in the evenings and nights. Further south, temperatures drop due to the higher altitudes. The southernmost regions, the Yucatan Peninsula and the coasts experience much hotter and humid weather.

July to September is the hottest period on the Pacific coast while southern regions have the highest temperatures in April and May.

The rainy season, that affects regions south of the Tropic of Cancer, is usually from May to September or October. Rains are more likely to happen in the afternoon and are pretty heavy, many times with thunders, but don't last long.

The Hurricane season in Mexico is from June to November and the hurricanes can affect weather on both Caribbean and Pacific coasts, usually the Yucatan Peninsula and south of Baja California.
