Climate & Weather in Norway

Flag of Norway

Norway stretches for about 1,770 km / 1,100 mi south to north and experiences significant weather differences from region to region. Although the country is situated at latitudes comparable to Alaska or southern half of Greenland (between 58N and 71N), the country's weather is remarkably mild, particularly in the west. This is due to the warm waters of the Gulf Stream and temperate winds from the Atlantic. Large dependency on the Atlantic also means that the weather in Norway is very changeable.

The climate of the interior highlands features very cold winters, with strong winds and a lot of snowfall; summers on the other hand are warm with a lot of sunshine. The coastal areas experience milder conditions in winter as well as a lot of rain, particularly in fall and early winter. Lowlands in the south have winters colder than the coast but warmer and drier summers.
