Climate & Weather in Paraguay

Flag of Paraguay

Paraguay has a tropical climate in the northwestern part of the country (the Chaco region) and a subtropical climate in the southeastern part - the Paraneña.

The Paraneña region has two seasons: summer that lasts from October to March and winter, from May to August. The climate in this region is humid, with extensive precipitation all year round and featuring moderate changes in temperatures between seasons. The most rainy months are March, May, October and November. The annual average rainfall is 127cm / 50". Winters are usually mild with just little frost, but occasionally masses of cold air from Antarctica may cause temperatures to fall below freezing point for a couple of days. Summers in the Paraneña region are warm, with seasonal averages of 21°C/70°F to 24°C/75°F.

The Chaco region experiences hotter conditions with most of the rainfall in summer months. The average annual precipitation is lower than in the southeast - about 100cm / 40".
