Climate & Weather in Peru

Flag of Peru

Due to the geography and terrain, Peru's climate varies region by region. There are three major climatic zones in Peru: the coast - arid and mild, the Andes - temperate cold, and the Amazon lowlands on the east - tropical.

The coast is mostly a desert featuring hot and dry summers (from December to April) with temperatures reaching 35°C / 95°F. Winters, lasting usually from May to October, bring colder air and high humidity; the garúa - a cloudy cool mist - is common.

The mountainous regions experience most precipitation between December and March, with the wettest months being January and February. The temperatures range then from 15°C / 59°F at night to 20°C / 68°F during the day. This region experiences little rain from May to October but the temperature variations are higher - from near freezing during the night up to 25°C / 77°F during the day.

The Amazon region is humid and rainy throughout the year, but with distinctly more precipitation during the Peru's wet season, generally from November to April. The dry season features high daytime temperatures, up to 35°C / 95°F.
