The climate in Puerto Rico is tropical, warm and humid. Average annual temperatures are 27°C / 82°F and the average annual rainfall is 157 cm / 62", but the amount of precipitation depends on the region. The driest is the south coast, the northern coast is almost twice as wet as the south coast and the mountains in the interior receive twice as much as the north coast. The mountains are also a few degrees cooler than the coasts.
Most of the rainfall occurs between May and October, with the wettest month being August. The driest months are from December to March.
Puerto Rico is located inside the Caribbean "hurricane belt" and the hurricanes can affect the weather of the island, particularly between August and November.
