Health
The healthcare system and facilities in Spain are very good, with modern and well-equipped hospitals and excellent doctors.
Spain provides free emergency treatment for the citizens of European Union (EU), holders of the European Health Insurance Card.
For non-emergency treatments and for visitors from outside EU, a comprehensive health insurance is highly recommended.
Spain has reciprocal healthcare agreements with some non-EU countries (like Peru, Paraguay, Ecuador, Chile, Brazil and Andorra) that ensure free hospitalization and medical care in cases of medical emergencies or accidents.
Safety
Spain is generally a pretty safe country and most visits to Spain are trouble-free.
The exception may be petty theft or street crime, which is common in the big cities.
Travelers should to take common sense precautions to avoid theft of passports, credit cards, travel documents and money:
keep valuable objects like phones and cameras out of view, particularly watch your possessions in crowded places such as public transport, museums or stores, don't walk around empty streets or poorly-lit areas at night.
