Saint Martin (French) or Sint Maarten (Duch) is an island in the northeast Caribbean, situated 232 km (144 miles) east of Puerto Rico and 8 km (5 miles) south of Anguilla. The island is divided into two nations: St-Martin, on the northern side, which is French overseas territory, belonging to Guadeloupe, and St. Maarten, on the southern side, which is part of the Netherlands Antilles.

The island's landscape is mostly mountainous with the highest point Pic Paradis, 424 m (1,391 ft). The coastline comprises mostly of beaches (37 in total), coastal lagoons, rocky areas and mangroves. There is no river on the island.

Tourism is the main industry on this scenic island which hosts numerous, very popular resorts and hotels.
