Climate & Weather in Sweden

Flag of Sweden

Sweden has a temperate and continental climate with significant differences between southern and northern regions of the country. The south of the country experiences short winters and long summers while the north has more sub-Arctic weather with long winters and short summers. Summers are usually warm throughout the country, even in the northern parts.

Most of the rainfall occurs in late summer, but there is a lot of snowfall in winter. Northern areas can be covered with snow for more than six months a year.

Because of Sweden's proximity to the Arctic Circle, the country experiences very long days in early summer and very long nights in early winter. Regions beyond the Arctic Circle experience Midnight Sun (when the sun never sets) and Polar Nights (when the sun never rises) for a few days a year.
