Taiwan enjoys a marine subtropical climate with hot and humid summers and mild to cool winters. South of the island is warmer than north and has no winter season. Higher parts of the mountains experience snowfall in winter. July to October is a typhoon season having its peak usually in August. July is the hottest month when daytime temperatures can reach 35ºC / 90ºF at the coast.

Taiwan experiences a lot of rainfall - the annual average is around 2,500 mm (98 in). In the north the rainfall is distributed evenly throughout the year, the south of the island is much wetter during summer and drier during winter months. There is also more rain in the mountains than in the plains as well as on the east coast than the west coast. On average the driest months are from September to October.

Generally September to November are the most popular months for travelers to Taiwan, when the weather is warm and dry.
