Climate & Weather in Tunisia

Flag of Tunisia

Tunisia has a Mediterranean climate characterized by hot and dry summers and mild, more rainy winters. Particularly inland and in the south, summer temperatures can be extremely high, occasionally reaching as high as 50°C / 122°F.

The north of the country, including coasts and northern mountains have moderate winter rainfall and drier, hot summers. The higher parts of the mountains occasionally experience snow. Winter temperatures inland are lower than at the coast and can sometimes drop below freezing point. The more south, the drier the weather conditions become.

Best time to visit Tunisia is in springtime, between mid-March and mid-May. Summer is the high season filled with European tourists flooding the beaches and raising prices. Summers are also definitely too hot to explore south of the country, which is best to see in autumn.
